Youth Participation Project
The Youth Participation Project is targeted at students at risk of becoming disengaged from employment, education, or training. Newcastle EBP work with these young people individually or in small cohorts to research and identify potential employment areas of interest to them. We then arrange for them to have workplace visits, meet key personnel, and engage in activities related to these employment areas.
They also look first-hand at the Further Education opportunities available to them that will increase their chances of success in the highly competitive jobs market. This helps break down a common barrier that typically prevents their advancement beyond school.
Students therefore develop their understanding of the personal qualities and academic qualifications required for entry and progression in careers of their choice.
Newcastle EBP also take students on the Youth Participation Project through a typical employers staff recruitment process. After viewing good and bad examples of application forms and interviews, students discuss and identify their own strengths and weaknesses. They then complete a standardised application form and are coached in the techniques essential to prepare for and maximise their impact in a job interview.
We then give them a mock interview, often with a senior staff member of an actual employer who provides them with immediate verbal and follow-up written feedback.
Newcastle EBP are currently working with students on the Youth Participation Project from schools throughout the City.
