18-year-old Rachel Betty completed her Fulcrum
Challenge earlier this year, raising £2,000 bag packing at her local supermarket and jumping out of a plane at 3,000 feet in a static-line parachute jump.
“I fractured my elbow and nearly crash landed onto a plough,” says Rachel, “but it was worth it to raise the money for the trip of a lifetime to Kenya.
“We landed in Nairobi before taking a long and bumpy bus journey to a place where we helped build a new primary school so children didn’t have to walk miles to get tuition.”
Rachel is now looking forward to taking part in
Newcastle EBP’s Young Ambassador scheme, which helps develop a range of employability, enterprise and personal development skills, with students planning their own programme, identifying training needs and practising skills including presentation, confidence building, motivation, time management and problem
solving.
“I will be involved in many different activities to develop new skills and help both local businesses and other youngsters on a variety of projects,” says Rachel.
