Enterprise Champion
Newcastle EBP is celebrating its’ success in winning a two year contract to deliver Enterprise activities across Newcastle.
The Enterprise Champion project is part of the Newcastle Enterprise Package supporting entrepreneurship in the most disadvantaged areas of the city.
Newcastle City Council and external delivery organisations are working together to:
- Raise awareness and understanding of enterprise in disadvantaged areas of Newcastle, especially among under-represented groups
- Fill the gaps in the provision of start-up and business support services in disadvantaged areas of the city
- Reduce barriers the entrepreneurial individuals (especially those from disadvantaged groups) face when starting up a business
- Encourage more start-ups located in the disadvantaged areas and businesses set up in other parts of the city by individuals from the disadvantages areas
- Support local businesses to be more sustainable and grow, particularly within disadvantaged communities
When delivering Lot 1 of the Enterprise Support Project, the EBP intends to work with a variety of partners from the other ‘Lots’ and the Youth and Voluntary sector, to provide a range of Enterprise activities and Business ‘Start Ups’ with young people aged14 to 19 in Newcastle.
Three Enterprise Champions will be identified and will work as a team with schools and youth groups to support and develop some existing businesses and social enterprises as well as to encourage the development of new business ‘start ups’.
Young people will apply for grants by learning how to complete a business plan and submitting it to a ‘panel of partners’ who will support the Enterprise Champions in ensuring that all the young people involved learn a range of relevant skills to enable them to develop their businesses.
The Enterprise Champions will also organise and coordinate a calendar which will provide a ‘menu of opportunities’ which will include a range of innovative and exciting activities, training opportunities, challenges and high profile showcases for thousands of young people and staff each year of the programme. A portfolio of activities and 4,000 newspapers will be produced at NCJ media to disseminate and share experiences.
